Snyder Molecular Diagnostics Lab

About

Acquire industry sponsored trials involving technology assessment and performance of rapid testing platforms including antimicrobial susceptibility testing, organism identification directly from positive blood cultures with comparison to current standard of care methods.  The primary focus is targeting bacteria although we have the capability of using molecular techniques for the direct detection viruses and fungi such as Pneumocystis jerveckii.

Key Research Areas

  • Rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing
  • Using inflammatory markers to differentiate viral versus bacterial infection directly from blood specimens
  • Verification of modified assays for the direct detection of Pneumocystis in bronchoalveolar specimens

Current Projects

  • Affinity biosensors, Rapid antimicrobial suseptiblity testing
  • Selux diagnostics, Assessment of performance of a rapid antimicrobial susceptabioty testing platform
  • Diasorin molecular diagnostics, Verification of a modified molecular assay for the detection of tneumocystitis from broncholavage (BAL) specimens
