Attention in NeuroDevelopment Lab

About

As we grow, we encounter a diverse array of visual stimuli — from bottles of milk as infants to traffic signs as we learn to drive. In a world full of distractions, how do our experiences shape what we attend to? What neural mechanisms underlie our ability to select what to focus on? And, how do developing attention abilities affect other skills, such as academic success?

At the AND Lab, we use behavioral measures, eyetracking, and neuroimaging to answer these questions as we investigate how children's developing brains manage attention.

Key Research Areas

  • The effect of environment on attention development
  • Neural mechanisms of visual selective attention
  • The role of attention in academic achievement
